Motivation

48. Seeing God within our body

God resides in our body and is hidden within our heart. Our Saints realized this truth (or secret) and confirmed that the goal of life is to experience that divine residing in our hearts. Many Saints also shared their experiences and guided spiritual aspirtants to experience God within.
Our Saint Thirumoolar is a greatest among the various Saint in our world. In this poem he sings, 
மாயனை நாடி மனநெடும் தேரேறிப்
மாயனை – God is residing in a hidden form in our hearts, in the same way as ghee is present in milk. நாடி – we need to search for him; மனநெடும் தேரேறிப் – we need to embark on that aircraft which is our mind; நெடும்தேர் – it is an aircraft that flies long distances.
போயின நாடறி யாதே புலம்புவர்
போயின நாடு – the path to the destination; அறியாதே – unaware; புலம்புவர் – they cry because they are unable to see what they expected to see; 
Our Saint Thirumoolar succinctly summarizes in this line how ignorant people  waste their time. “Imagining that God is present somewhere very far, ignorant people go in search of God in all directions in vain.” In the next two lines, he explains his experience. 
தேயமும் நாடும் திரிந்து எங்கள் செல்வனைக்
காயம்மின் நாட்டிடைக் கண்டுகொண் டேனே.  

எங்கள் செல்வனை – God who is the invaluable gift one can aspire; தேயமும் நாடும் திரிந்து – after searching outside and all over the world; காயம்மின் நாட்டிடை – the country which is my body; that is within my body, in my heart; கண்டுகொண்டேனே – I found God by searching him within my heart.
Our Saint Thirumoolar summarizes elegantly that after searching everywhere outside, I finally found God who has been residing hidden within my body in my heart.

மாயனை நாடி மனநெடும் தேரேறிப்
போயின நாடறி யாதே புலம்புவர்
தேயமும் நாடும் திரிந்து எங்கள் செல்வனைக்
காயம்மின் நாட்டிடைக் கண்டுகொண் டேனே.  1 

In this poem, our Saint Thirumoolar explains that God is actually present at all time inside the human beings in our hearts.
புகுந்துநின் றான் எங்கள் புண்ணிய மூர்த்தி
புகுந்துநின் றான் எங்கள் போதறி வாளன்
எங்கள் புண்ணிய மூர்த்தி – God who is bestows us the benefits of our good deeds; புகுந்து நின்றான் – he is residing but hidden; போதம் – wisdom; the end of knowledge  that is wisdom; போதறி வாளன் – the embodiment of wisdom;
புகுந்துநின் றான் அடி யார்தங்கள் நெஞ்சம்
அடியார் தங்கள் நெஞ்சம்  -in the hearts of those who is devoted to Him (God); புகுந்து நின்றான் – he enters and resides.
Our Saint Thirumoolar explains in this line that once we have matured in our devotion and become eligible for God’s vision, God becomes visible. To explain that while God has been residing all along in our hearts, we are able to see Him only when our devotion matures – our Saint Thirumoolar uses the புகுந்து நின்றான் (residing but hidden).
புகுந்துநின் றானையே போற்றுகின் றேனே
போற்று கின்றேனே – I sing praises.
Our Saint Thirumoolar sings with joy in the last line on God  who is residing in our hearts but not initially visible. 
புகுந்துநின் றான் எங்கள் புண்ணிய மூர்த்தி
புகுந்துநின் றான் எங்கள் போதறி வாளன்
புகுந்துநின் றான் அடி யார்தங்கள் நெஞ்சம்
புகுந்துநின் றானையே போற்றுகின் றேனே.  4
