47. God resides in our hearts

Our Saint Thirumoolar sings in this poem the experience of that Omnipresent God principle that also resides in our hearts. Our Saint sings with joy that, “I was able to keep within my heart that God who is present everywhere!”

சிவன்வந்து தேவர் குழாமுடன் கூடப்

பவம்வந் திடநின்ற பாசம் அறுத்திட்டு

குழாம் – lineage; following the lineage of divine beings; பவம் – birth; பவம்வந் திடநின்ற பாசம் – the karmic bonds that come together with birth; அறுத்திட்டு – untangling that bond;

அவன்எந்தை ஆண்டருள் ஆதிப் பெருமான்

அவன்எந்தை – God who is my favorite father; ஆண்டருள் ஆதிப் பெருமான் – the primordial God who lovingly showers his blessings and enshrines my heart;

அவன்வந்தென் னுள்ளே அகப்பட்ட வாறே

அவன் – that sacred God (Siva) who is omnipresent and glorious; வந்தென்னுள்ளே – came down lovingly and enshrines the heart of my humble self;  அகப்பட்டவாறே – he locked himself within my heart!

சிவன்வந்து தேவர் குழாமுடன் கூடப்

பவம்வந் திடநின்ற பாசம் அறுத்திட்டு

அவன்எந்தை ஆண்டருள் ஆதிப் பெருமான்

அவன்வந்தென் னுள்ளே அகப்பட்ட வாறே.  19

Our Saint Thirumoolar expresses his joy when he sings with the word “அகப்பட்டவாறே” with the exclamation, “what a nice marvel indeed”. In this song, our Saint Thirumoolar also uses the word அவன் twice. It shows how he is excited to describe God and God’s benevolence!

While immersed in this joy, he sings in this poem, about how he also constantly pours his love for God.

Our Saint Thirumoolar explains how his heart is melting with love for God, how his eyes are filled with tears for God, and how he is always longing for God – all of which illustrate the intense love for God.

அன்புள் உருகி அழுவன் அரற்றுவன்

என்பும் உருக இராப்பகல் ஏத்துவன்

என்பு – bones; ஏத்துவன் – I will sing praises;

என்பொன் மணியை இறைவனை ஈசனைத்

தின்பன் கடிப்பன் திருத்துவன் தானே.  

என்பொன் மணியை – my beloved God, who is a precious gem; திருத்துதல் – embrace with love;

அன்புள் உருகி அழுவன் அரற்றுவன்

என்பும் உருக இராப்பகல் ஏத்துவன்

என்பொன் மணியை இறைவனை ஈசனைத்

தின்பன் கடிப்பன் திருத்துவன் தானே.  24 

Our Saint Thirumoolar sings with intense feelings how he pours his love for God. Saint Manickavachagar has also sung such feelings for God (Siva) in Thiruvachagam. 

Our Saint Thirumoolar who was  highly evolved, enlightened, and embodiment of God, sang this sacred poem from that state of oneness with God.
