46. God is the fruit for our spiritual efforts

Our Saint Thirumoolar sings in this poem that “God provides sustenance for the world. For every being in this world, God is the indweller.”   By sharing on his own experience our Saint sings this poem telling us that each one of us can also make efforts to achieve that blissful experience. 

ஒன்றுகண் டீர்உல குக்கொரு தெய்வமும்

ஒன்றுகண் டீர்உல குக்குஉயி ராவதும்

Not matter, what each religion may say differently, our Saint Thirumoolar emphatically says that all that refers to the same one God. 

நன்றுகண் டீர்இனி நமசிவா யப்பழம்

தின்றுகண் டேற்கிது தித்தித்த வாறே

நமசிவாயப்பழம் – the sacred mantra is நமசிவாய – and the mantra is in praise of God (Siva). Our Saint refers to Siva as the fruit of that mantra. Our Saint says that this fruit is good and also bestows happiness. கண்டீர் – please experience; தின்று. – I have eaten that fruit; கண்டேற்கு -for me who has experienced that. இது தித்தித்த வாறே – I wish you all experience that sweetness that I had enjoyed. 

Our Saint Thirumoolar sings assuring us that each one of us will experience and confirm the sweetness of that good fruit (God)!

ஒன்றுகண் டீர்உல குக்கொரு தெய்வமும்

ஒன்றுகண் டீர்உல குக்குஉயி ராவதும்

நன்றுகண் டீர்இனி நமசிவா யப்பழம்

தின்றுகண் டேற்கிது தித்தித்த வாறே.  6

In the next poem, Our Saint Thirumoolar sings about the glory of the dancing Siva. 

சந்திரன் பாம்பொடும் சூடும் சடாதரன்

God (Siva) who adorns the moon and snake in his matted hair.

வந்தென்னை யாண்ட மணிவிளக்கு ஆனவன்

வந்தென்னையாண்ட – God enveloped me with his immense grace; மணிவிளக்கு ஆனவன் – God who is effulgent.

அந்தமும் ஆதியும் இல்லா அரும்பொருள்

அந்தமும் – end (death); ஆதியும் – beginning (birth); இல்லா அரும்பொருள் – God who has no end or beginning.

சிந்தையின் மேவித் தியக்கு அறுத் தானே

சிந்தையின் மேவி – engulfing my thoughts; தியக்கு – the three illusions of ego, karma and worldly pleasures; அறுத் தானே – God untangled.

Our Saint Thirumoolar sings how God (Siva) came down mercifully, occupied his mind, and removed him from the tangles of three illusions, namely ego, karma and worldly pleasures. Other Saints like Manikkavachakar have also sung the glory of God (Siva) with similar words.

சந்திரன் பாம்பொடும் சூடும் சடாதரன்

வந்தென்னை யாண்ட மணிவிளக்கு ஆனவன்

அந்தமும் ஆதியும் இல்லா அரும்பொருள்

சிந்தையின் மேவித் தியக்கு அறுத் தானே.  7
